Contemporary food culture is increasingly oriented toward horizontal expansion. As preparation time continues to shrink, people seek constant novelty in combinations and variation, rather than cultivating a deeper understanding of the flavor and complexity of a single ingredient. Closely intertwined with highly automated lifestyles and AI-driven decision-making, this mode of consumption gradually erodes human sensory perception, reducing eating to an almost unconscious routine.
When these tendencies are pushed to their extreme, “feed” emerges as the logical culmination of contemporary consumption: diverse in flavor, modular in production, efficient, and requiring minimal emotional engagement. Flavor Renaissance begins from this extreme condition and poses a critical question: when eating is reduced to mere energy intake, how might we recover its sensory depth and meaning? Through the design of texture, form, and modes of consumption, we seek to reframe food as an object of awareness—one that reactivates perception and invites reflection.
Through this work, we further examine how, in a future increasingly dominated by virtual and digital systems, food might still retain its status as a tangible, real object. When all other senses can be simulated or replaced, eating may remain the final proof of our connection to reality.
