Fried rice cake

A Sweet Tradition for Lunar New Year

Fried rice cake is a traditional Taiwanese treat enjoyed during Lunar New Year. In Chinese culture, rice cake, or nian gao, symbolises growth and progress, carrying heartfelt wishes for a better year ahead.

This recipe was passed down from my grandmother, making it especially meaningful to me. Preparing and sharing rice cake has always been more than just cooking. It's a way of welcoming the new year, celebrating family traditions, and creating memories through food.

By sharing my grandmother's recipe, I hope to preserve this special family tradition and pass on the flavours and cooking skills that have been cherished across generations.
